What’s New…

  • The Steps To Excellence Project (STEP) is pleased to offer new quality improvement trainings for early childhood educators. Click here to review trainings featured in the STEP Training Catalogue - October 2008.
  • The National Women's Law Center has developed resource materials on how families can claim the following tax credits:  federal Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit; California Tax Credit for Child and Dependent Care Expenses; federal Earned Income Tax Credit; and the federal Child Tax Credit.  Visit their Tax Credits Outreach Campaign to access all of their State specific resources offered in multiple languages.  Click here for the flyer, You've Been Working Hard - Get the Credit You Deserve in English.  In addition, Payroll Stuffers are available for download and distribution to your employees.
  • The Office of Child Care -  with input from the Policy Roundtable for Child Care and the Child Care Planning Committee, County Departments, and community stakeholders - has developed Bridging Child Development and Related Services Sectors:  A Policy Framework for Los Angeles County.  The Policy Framework expresses the County's commitment to working collaboratively to achieve the integration of child care and development into services offered by County Departments and its community partners.  The Policy Framework is pending review and approval by the Board of Supervisors.

The Office of Child Care supports policy recommendation formulation, planning, and implementation efforts of the County of Los Angeles Policy Roundtable for Child Care and the Child Care Planning Committee to improve the availability, quality, and access to child care in the County of Los Angeles. Specific activities include recommending how proposed policies, plans, and procedures of public, private, and non-profit entities contribute to child care quality, supply, and/or accessibility; researching child care issues and legislation to formulate policy recommendations to the County Board of Supervisors; conducting periodic countywide child care needs assessments; and developing countywide plans to address identified needs.

The Office also assists County departments in developing employee child care services and is responsible for implementation of the following special projects:
