What’s New…

  • The Steps To Excellence Project (STEP) is pleased to offer new quality improvement trainings for early childhood educators. Click here to review trainings featured in the STEP Training Catalogue - October 2008.

  • The Office of Child Care is seeking experienced, dynamic individuals to conduct trainings on the Family Child Care Environment Rating Scale (FCCERS), the Infant Toddler Environment Rating Scale (ITERS) and the Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale (ECERS) for the Steps to Excellence Project.   • The Child Care Planning Committee and the Office of Child Care announce the launch of Cycle 10 of the Investing in Early Educators Stipend Program.  Click here for more information on the Stipend Program, to read the Special Alert regarding the availability of funds from the State for Cycle 10, and to download the instructions and application.

  • For Los Angeles County Employees - Open Enrollment includes opportunity to participate in Flexible Spending Accounts for child care and health care costs: Eligible Los Angeles County employees may reduce out-of-pocket health care expenses and the cost of care for children or adult dependents by enrolling in the Flexible Spending Account (FSA) during open enrollment. Open enrollment ends on October 31, 2008. Information on the Health Care Spending Account and Dependent Care Spending Account is included in the employee's enrollment packet or by contacting Human Resources.

  • The County of Los Angeles Department of Mental Health (DMH) is facilitating the development of the County's Mental Health Services Act/Prevention and Early Intervention (MHSA/PEI). As part of the planning process, the DMH is seeking input from community members. Seventeen Community Forums are now scheduled throughout the county by eight service areas. The Office of Child Care supports policy recommendation formulation, planning, and implementation efforts of the County of Los Angeles Policy Roundtable for Child Care and the Child Care Planning Committee to improve the availability, quality, and access to child care in the County of Los Angeles. Specific activities include recommending how proposed policies, plans, and procedures of public, private, and non-profit entities contribute to child care quality, supply, and/or accessibility; researching child care issues and legislation to formulate policy recommendations to the County Board of Supervisors; conducting periodic countywide child care needs assessments; and developing countywide plans to address identified needs.

The Office also assists County departments in developing employee child care services and is responsible for implementation of the following special projects:
